The Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) claimed that it will start repair work of damaged city roads from mid-September.

In this regard, the JDA has identified 124 important roads that will be repaired in phase -I. According to senior officials, work order of Rs 500 crore has also been issued to contractors. “Repair work of approximately 2,500 km will be done. While the JDA will repair 1,000 km, the remaining 1,500 km will be repaired by contractors as a part of a three-year contract,” a senior JDA official said.

After recent rainfall, city roads have turned into dirt tracks causing huge risk to the commuters. In a recent visit, the urban development and housing (UDH) minister, Shanti Dhariwal, announced that the government is apprehensive of starting repair of the roads on a large scale before September 15 because of the possibility of rains to continue till September 15. However, roads which need minor patch up and repairs will begin from September first week, he had said.

The state government has been conducting survey of roads for the past few days to analyze the extent of damage to roads in the recent rains.

The roads near Sindhi camp, railway station, Khasa Kothi and Chand Pole are some of the main areas which are in bad shape and residents have to face a lot of difficulties while driving their vehicles.

The pitiful condition of the roads has worried officials and residents as chances of meeting fatal accidents have increased manifold. Commuting in the city roads has become a nightmare for most residents.

The JDA had established a maintenance cell and funds for swift redressal of public grievances, including road repairing, have been released. During a meeting the UDH , additional chief secretary G S Sandhu made directions to redress road complaints and related complaints registered in call centres within seven days .

However, the residents continue to suffer and claimed that despite several complaints no relief work has been undertaken.
