JDA approves cycle rickshaw corridor project

The Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) has approved the pilot project for creation of a dedicated cycle rickshaw corridor from Sanganeri Gate to Govind Devji Temple.

The decision was taken at a meeting of Traffic Control Board of JDA on Monday. The project proposes to build a 2.5-metre-wide dedicated corridor on either side of the stretch.

The corridor will maintain a distance of one metre from the covered verandas of the market.

However, the general secretary of Jaipur Vyapar Mahasangh said that the project is good but difficult to execute.

“As there are trees at a distance of 4 to 5 metres from the market veranda, it would be difficult to construct the corridor on this route,” he said.

It has also been proposed to integrate this project with the public bicycle sharing (PBS) project.

In PBS project, bicycles would be stored in a closely spaced network of stations where, with a smart card or other form of identification, a user can take a cycle from a station and return it at any other station after reaching the desired place.

For this, the Walled City has been identified as the starting point for the project.

The government has to identify 20 locations where 72 stations would be built to park 1,000 cycles. The total cost of the whole project would be Rs19.71 crore.
