The Jaipur Development Authority’s (JDA) two proposed projects – railway over bridge (RoB) at Khirni Pathak and Durgapura elevated road – aimed at providing relief to commuters from the heavy traffic continue to hit roadblocks.

At the Khirni Pathak (RoB) site, work has been stalled as the JDA has yet to shift a temple, hampering the construction work. Moreover, the project is still waiting nod from the railway safety board to carry out construction over the tracks.

“The JDA is planning to shift the temple to nearby park on the demand of locals. However, this may invite legal troubles. We will seek advice from the empowered committee constituted by the Supreme Court. Recently, the Supreme Court has banned construction of any religious structure in facility area such as park and road among others,” a senior official said.

In the meantime, commuters in the area continue to face inconveniences. Jagdish Sharma, residing in Khirni Phatak area, said, “It’s a major requirement for this area. There is no other route and people often get late for their offices and schools when the gate is closed. The congestion is much more when traffic from both the sides passes rail tracks.”
