Devji Patel, BJP MP from Jalore-Sirohi, has demanded that the government give a special package for starting drinking water projects in his constituency which faces a shortage. Local people depend on ground water which has a high salinity and fluoride content.

Patel submitted a memorandum to Governor Margaret Alva in Mount Abu on Saturday, urging her to pursue the matter with the government. He said, “In the past 18 years, Jalore has received average rain only in 7 years. So the groundwater level is falling.”

He said that due to low rainfall, people are compelled to exploit more groundwater. He added, “Government officials say that the ground water here is not potable. It is saline with high fluoride content.” The Narmada Canal Project was a ray of hope too is delayed.
