A police team from Jaipur reached Kerala’s Kannur district on Monday afternoon to execute a production warrant for Biti Mohanty, convicted of raping a German woman before jumping parole seven years ago. However, the team is unlikely to immediately leave with Mohanty for Jaipur as he was sent to Kerala police’s custody for the next 10 days.

SHO, Lal Kothi police station, Sampat Singh, who was heading the team said he was told that Mohanty was produced in a court on Monday.

“The Kerala police have been granted Mohanty’s custody for 10 days. It is unlikely that we would be able to leave with Mohanty for Jaipur before completion of his police custody. We would serve the production warrant at the jail where Mohanty was lodged and then return. It would be the responsibility of the jail administration to send Mohanty to Jaipur,” said the SHO over phone from Kerala.
