Jaipur doctor received India-US award

A city-based doctor, Pooja Sandeepan Mukul, has received the award in the Healthy Individual category of the ‘United States-India Science & Technology Endowment Fund’ for promotion of joint activities that would lead to innovation & techno-preneurship through the application of science & technology. The endowment fund was established by governments of the US and India.

A panel of US and Indian experts selects proposals and the fund supports through a grant programme financially promising joint US-India entrepreneurial initiatives.

The two priority areas are Healthy Individual & Citizen Empowerment.

From over 500 applicants, two business proposals were awarded in the Healthy Individual Category & three in the Citizen Empowerment Category. Dr Pooja received the award in the Healthy Individual category for 2013. The award was presented by Dr John P Holdren, director of the White House Office of Science & Technology Policy and S Jaipal Reddy, Union minister for science & technology in New Delhi on June 24, 2013.

Dr Pooja will be working with Dr Krista Donaldson of D-Rev on the project titled, ‘Affordable and User-Centric Knee Joints to Remobilize Above Knee amputees in India & Globally’. There are over 1.6 million above knee amputees in India in need of a biomechanically efficient affordable knee joint. Dr Pooja will use the fund to carry out a pilot programme to fit the new ‘Re Motion Knee’ to patients at Bhagwan Mahaveer Viklang Sahayata Samiti, Jaipur.
