IAF MiG-21 fighter crashes in Barmer killing the pilot

A MiG-21 aircraft of IAF crashed at Uttarlai airbase in Barmer on Monday, killing the pilot. However, there is no reported damage to any civilian life or property.

The aircraft was on a routine exercise and it developed some technical snag while landing around 9.30 am. It soon turned into a ball of fire and exploded, killing the pilot.

According to superintendent of police, Barmer, Rahul Barhat, “A MiG-21 Bison, after a routine flight, was landing when it caught fire and exploded. The pilot could not eject and died on the spot.”

Defence spokesperson Col SD Goswami too confirmed the incident and said that a court of inquiry has been ordered into the incident.

This is the third accident involving a MiG aircraft this year.
