Rajasthan University has entered the second phase of the long-awaited recruitment process for the post of 390 teachers. Interviews for the posts will begin from August 10. The outgoing RU vice-chancellor, Madhukar Gupta, has given his nod for the interviews after the first phase of scrutinizing applications was completed.

“We have received a total of 17,000 applications for a total post of 390 teachers including 35 professors, 61 associate professors and 294 assistant professors,” Gupta said. The recruitments process which was stalled in 2010 is likely to be completed by October end.

In a bid to give immediate reprieve to the university law colleges, both I and II, which were denied permission by the Bar Council of India (BCI) to run academic session for want of teachers, the RU will held the interviews of law applicants first. The move by BCI has put the fate of aspiring 1,800 students in a limbo. The university is at its wit’s end after the BCI order. “I am sure BCI will be give the permission as the holding interviews will happen soon and hope that new academic session will not be delayed further,” an RU official said.

Meanwhile, a group of applicants are challenging the recruitment process in the court citing alleged irregularities in the process. Some students raised their apprehension on the recruitment process. Their voices were echoed by the Civil Lines MLA and Syndicate member, Pratap Singh Kachriyawas, saying RU is accepting forms only from those who have cleared NET and SLET. “By disqualifying applications of those candidates who have done PhD before December 31, 2009, it has left thousands of scholars in a limbo,” Kachriyas said.
