Ashok Jain is the AAP’s sole face in Rajasthan and the first single person who got elected to a constitutional post on an AAP ticket in the entire country. A corporator and chairman of the Mangrol Municipal Committee in Rajasthan’s Baran district, Jain, in the true tradition of his young party, speaks like a true believer.
“This is a war against corruption, a clash between dharm and adharm. People are in no mood to tolerate the entrenched corruption of the established political parties,” says the 62-yearold, his bushy grey moustache covering his upper lip as he strains a smile. The AAP is not fighting the Rajasthan polls.
Instead, Jain and his party workers have decided to focus their energies in capturing Delhi, the home turf of their leader Kejriwal. Soon, Jain will be seen mobilizing support for Kejriwal against Sheila Dikshit.
Again, just like his leader, Jain too is a political novice with some experience as a social activist. His political convictions are anchored in his experiences in public life in Baran district’s town where he was born. He studied law, but ended up as a small-time construction contractor, largely dependent on government projects. However, being the son of Hadauti region’s noted freedom fighter-Seth Motilal Jain, the younger Jain got engaged in social work through the Divakar charitable trust set up by his father.
